frequently asked

What is a suite?

A suite is one complete invitation, including your main invitation card and envelope, a reply (or RSVP) card and envelope, and any other informational cards (like a reception card, a map, a rehearsal invitation) you want to include. A suite also encompasses any embellishments you want to add, like a vellum wrap, ribbon, wax seal or envelope liner. Essentially, a suite is what one individual guest will receive.

Can you also design our menus, place cards, and signs?

Of course! In fact, I think this is one of the best things about custom wedding invitations. I can design each piece to all match and be a cohesive experience from your save the date all the way to thank you cards.

That said, day-of items are usually not included in your initial invitation package. These will be offered and quoted separately, closer to your wedding day.

What is the process of ordering custom wedding invitations?

What are foil-stamped invitations?

Hot foil stamping is a luxury printing method. It’s a die-based process where your design is etched into a metal plate (called a die), which is then heated in a press and used to stamp and fuse foil to your invitation card. It's a lot like letterpress, but leaves a bit less of an impression, but much more shiny delight.

Foil finishes come in a wide variety of options, with metallic gold, silver and rose gold being the most popular. That said, there is a rainbow of possibility here, for whatever you and your guests will love.

Because each foiled piece requires its own custom die, start-up printing costs can be high. I don’t require a minimum number of suites per order, but I do price your package according to these costs.

How much can I expect to spend?

Foil-stamped wedding invitations are a luxury product. Because of the nature of plate-printing and the high set-up costs, along with the high-quality materials we use, a couple will typically spend $1800-2500 for a 150-guest wedding (or ~100 suites).

When should we start discussing our invitations with a designer?

Typically, the custom design process takes about 3-6 months from the time you inquire, including consultation, proposals, design time and of course production and shipping. So, I recommend booking in at least 5-8 months before your wedding. This gives us enough time to learn about each other and perfect the design, so it's just right for you. This is especially important if you're ordering save the dates as well.

However, if you don't have quite that much time, I can accommodate some rush orders depending on my availability for your date. Please note that any order placed within 16 weeks of your wedding will incur rush fees. These fees cover the overtime I put in and express shipping for materials. Costs will depend on how full my schedule is at the time and how close to the wedding you're ordering.

How many invitations do I need to order?

We typically estimate that you will need about 60% of your guest list. That means, if you are having 100 guests you’ll need about 60 invitations (since you will not send separate invitations to two parts of a couple, or young children in a family). That said, your final invitation count will be based on your address list — so if you already have that information, you know exactly how many invitations you’ll need.

Can I order a sample?

Absolutely! If you want to experience the materials and see how gorgeous our finishes are in person, you can order an invitation sample. If you end up placing an order with me, the cost of the sample will be credited to your account.

I don’t know what I’m doing. Can you help me?

Of course! That’s what I’m here for. Most couples have never ordered custom stationery before, and I know that. Think of me as your guide along this stationery journey. I deal with these things every day, so I am happy to answer any and all questions you have along the way — even before you’re booked in. I promise to be patient and gentle as I walk you through anything you need.

What happens if my plans change?

If your wedding details change during the design process, for any reason, that's not a problem at all. Please let me know before approving your proofs to avoid any problems with printing.
If your details change during production, please let me know as soon as possible to minimize loss and fees. There may be additional charges to replace your stamping plates.

If you have to reschedule your wedding after your invitations have shipped, due to events that are out of your control (a global pandemic, for example), I'd be happy to consult with you about a solution! Each couple's situation will be different, but I do promise to do all I can to take care of you should this happen.
